Brake Line Harley

Harley Brakes Again One more time guys?
I tried all the suggestions from all of you guys and thank you for that I still have a question...I still cant build pressure and I removed the brake line and placed my finger over the hole and there was suction but not very hard and the fluid would just drip out when I squeeze the handle..Now is this normal??? I didnt try the electric bleeder yet trying to conserve my money if I can...Thanks
Hey Mike,,I read your previous question on this deal>>
"I put new caliper, line, and control on my Harley and tried to bleed them and I am getting fluid out of the caliper but not building pressure...."
Lottsa answers about Bleeding,,,but No Mention of Filling and Purging.
All those new parts start off EMPTY,,,
You cant even begin to Bleed the system untill the system is filled and purged of the bulk of air.
Try This>
Loosen hose connection at Master Cylinder so that it can Leak,,just maybe a 1/2 ~1 turn from being snug.
Remove Master Cylinder Cover.
You may want remove much of the fluid,,becuase You are fixin' to Overflow the reservoir.
Do something to push the Wheel Caliper Pistons back IN.
?Shove on it with You hand or Foot.
?Pry the Pads with a screwdriver.
?Remove the caliper and use C-Clamps
Whatever.
But J Do it JUST UNTILL the Fluid Back Flow causes a LEAK at the end of the Hose/Master Cylinder Connection.
If you have 2 Calipers,,,Push BOTH back in to create Reverse Fluid Flow.
When Fluid Leaks outa the Loose Connection,,,TIGHTEN the connection.
Now Push the Caliper Pistons in the remainder of what they'll go.
That will now have Fluid Backflow going into Master Cyl Reservoir and probly over flowing it.
You can probly observe AIR bubbling the the Reservoir.
At this point ,,you will have purged most of the air from the system.
And Master Cyl should now be able to do both of it's jobs.
Vacuum and Pressurize.
Pump and Release Slowly and Gradually,,,pausing a moment between strokes.
You Will NOT get any lever firmness untill you've Pumped enough Fluid BACK into Calipers and get them refilled as they pump out toward the disc.
So WATCH the FLUID LEVEL,,,it will DROP a LOT & You'll have to Add More.
Continue pumping till pads are back out and pressing on the discs,,,,and lever has some firmness.
At that point,,let it sit 5minutes or so,,,,
Then Push the Pistons back IN again,,spread the pads,,whatever.
Then Pump them back out with the lever..
NOW,,at this point If you Want to,,,Try Bleeding them thru the caliper Bleeder using the old Pump & Release bleeding method.
You should not have any air,,or Very Little.
Because you just used a PUMP 10X the size of the Master Cyl,,to push Fluid Uphill chasing air out,,,from One extreme end of the system to the other..
.................................
It's exact same thing as a Reverse Pressure Bleeder,,except ya dont have the "Endless Volume" capability an actual pressure pump has by continually refilling the Pump.
Start by Filling the Pump(aka Caliper),,,then push pistons INWARD.
That pushes any Air Out back through the Master Cylinder Reservoir.
Dumb Simple,,,5~10 Minute deal,,MAX.
System remains CLOSED all the While,,so it cannot suck In any air.
It Fills M/C Bore with Fluid Back Flow,,,so when ya press Lever,,it can Only Push Fluid into the Line.
When You Release lever,,,and piston Reverses,,,it can Only Vaccum the Fluid Column until piston travels far enough to uncover refill port.
Then the Vaccum created by Remaining piston travel,,vaccums Fluid out of Reservoir,,Refilling M/C Bore with solid FLUID.
Next Squeeze,,ALL You've got to pump,,is Only Fluid.
........................
You CANNOT bleed an Unfilled System.
You Cannot FILL a sytem full of Air.
You Must open the System to allow Air to escape as Fluid displaces it.
Then You can Fill it.
Once "Full",,,then You have Fluid volume to use for PURGING the System of Air.
Once it's Purged of the bulk of any air,,,
Only THEN can the Master Cyl do it's job as both a Vacuum and pressure pump.
Bleeding then goes Very quick and easy when system is Working.
It sucks air Out,,which draws Fluid In.
And it pushes Fluid IN,,which pushes air OUT.
Thats how Disc Brakes are Self Adjusting,,and largely Self Bleeding.
But untill the system is Filled and Purged,,,
The Master Cylinder is only sucking wind and pumping nothing but thin air.
You or me coulda DONE it quicker than it took to write or read this.
Walk out to your bike with a screwdriver.
Take off Fluid Reservoir Cover.
Stick your foot on the Caliper and Push it inward toward Disc while watching in the Fluid Reservoir.
It'll look like ya pushed the button on a can of shaving cream.
It gets so much air OUT at one time,,,after pumping the lever to get caliper pistons pushed back Out,,,
Next time ya try pushing on caliper with your foot,,,You'll probly get a Jet of Fluid outa the reservoir that MIGHT hit your garage ceiling.
No need to buy any kind of bleeder pump,,,
Your brakes were MADE with a "Built-In one".
Many folks just dont know it's there,,let alone how to prime it,or turn it on,,or work with it.
