Harley Davidson motorbikes. Do you get what you pay for?

I'm looking at bikes for sale and I'm wondering if Harley's are worth the difference in price. Or do you just pay for the name.

my opinion? buying the name, not that it isn't a cool name though...
EDIT: wow, didn't realize I'd get soo many thumbs both directions. Alrighty I'll give a more complete answer. Are Harleys good bikes? I think so, not to say they don't have their problems however. I know of people who ride Harleys who carry around a little bag of bolts, nuts, etc in case one rattles off. Is it common for these things to fall off? Not so much, but more common than other bikes. Is it worth the increase in price, and don't fool yourself, there is one. That's debatable, I don't htink there's anything inherently more valuable about the bike other than the name, but at the same time, resale value remains high BECAUSE of that name, so I'd say that's a toss-up. Is it American made? Yes and no, but I think most of the profit stays in the US so I guess that's a good sell point for your patriotic side. Does it have a history? Is this a serious question, of course it does! But you will pay a bit more to be a part of it. Long story short, I think they are a good bike, though more expensive than comparable ones. Whether that price increase is worth it to you, only you can decide. For what its worth, I ride a Yamaha 'crotch rocket' but I feel I can respect the Harley name for those who prefer the cruiser style. Not so much with Buell, however, if you want a 'fast' bike, bad choice. However, if I were to get a cruiser one day, Harley would definitely be on the top of my list, even with the negatives I've referred to previously. I don't think you can have a 'true' cruiser in America without it being American made, but that opens up the whole Triumph and Victory discussion that I'm just not going to get into...
