This weekend, Labour Day, which in Wisconsin will know the genius of the marketing machine of Harley Davidson. For those of you in other parties the world that have not been kept awake by the continuous thunder of thousands of Harleys riding on the road, let me explain. Each year, Harley-Davidson Motor Company celebrated an anniversary in Milwaukee, which includes several celebrations satellite dealers across the region.

You may ask, "It was a celebration Marketing -?. A phenomenon" Exactly! Think about it, thousands of people traveled thousands of miles and there spent a lot of money to celebrate their last purchase. There were no events throughout the long weekend in Milwaukee and all the Harley dealerships where people gathered to socialize, to see the other bikes, Harley buy merchandise, and (probably) his bike purchase next plan.

It did not happen by itself. It was a carefully orchestrated marketing plan that worked for HD decades. Although there are many facets of the marketing plan, there are two things that really stand out.

First: Mystique. People buy not a motorcycle when buying Harley, who buy an idea. There is a mystique Harley Davidson is unique in the automotive market. I know of no other vehicle that attracts thousands of people around the world to celebrate. Of course, some clubs where fans meet, but none the same amount of fans. During the past decades, Harley carefully shaped this mystical, to save the company from bankruptcy to roughly sure.

Secondly, culture. Harley has a different culture built around its product, which does not include goods motorcycle which represents 5% of company revenues. It is rare to see a rider a pig who does not dress for the occasion. HD has carefully chosen its target market and marketing built around them. Of course, there are bikes out there, but if you're in the market of destination of any other Harley bike to buy. Many of those who today can not afford a Harley are pending and who aspire to join when they can the club. And that's just the point. Harley created a community of people who defend the culture that mysticism perpetually in office.

Of course, other products from these elements. Sports teams are a classic Harley has taken many pages. Some teams have a unique cult stature, such as the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs. What if you saw the ad: "Two for One Deal at Lambeau Field" or "Cheap Seats available at Wrigley Field? "It would be disastrous for sale!

So how can you create a mystic and a culture that supports your product? What can you do to separate competition that no longer apply to the sale - so that customers ask to buy from you? What would happen if you never had to explain the price but customers are very grateful elected to pay any price just so they can be in your club? This is my challenge to all owners business. What is your idea of marketing genius?
